Eastern Kingbirds belong to the family of flycatchers known as Tyrannus.
Both sexes have dark gray backs and tails with a white neck and breast. Orange feathers are visible on the black crown when excited.
They are typically seen in open country near water, often perched on high branches or wires. Insects are the main source of food
captured on the wing, although in fall they will also indulge in fruits.
