Punkhorn Parklands MAPS Station Our Punkhorn Field Station encompasses an area of approximately 50 acres. We have 10 mist nets placed in strategic areas where birds are most apt to congregate. The MAPS project runs from the end of May to the second week in August. In 2004 we started to see a number of birds returning to their breeding grounds from previous years. We've also recaptured a few birds that we banded on Wing Island originally. The Punkhorn is rich with berries produced in the summer, but by fall most of those summer berries have been eaten. Bird activity dwindles as birds move to better feeding grounds like Wing Island. We close down the nets after the MAPS season and spend our time during fall migration at Wing Island.

Below are some images of the trails, nets, and mobile banding station at the Punkhorn Parklands. As you can see, the area is quite thickly wooded with many marshy areas.
