American Tree Sparrow

It is a sure sign that banding is coming to a close for the season when the American Tree Sparrows arrive. They are one of the last fall migrants that we capture in our nets. Tree Sparrows are winter residents, breeding only in the high tundra. The breast is non-streaked, except for a variably shaped dot in the center that sometimes can look like a heart!
