Black-billed Cuckoo
|
This Black-billed Cuckoo was an exciting find in our
nets, since it was the first one we have banded on Wing Island. Cuckoos are birds of the woodland and
are not often seen due to their secretive nature. Populations of cuckoos tend to fluctuate from year to
year in any given area depending on the availability of food. Caterpillars are high on their list
of favorite foods. Females build unkempt nests of twigs and will lay 2-3 eggs. They will occasionally lay
an egg in the nests of other species.
