The Blue-headed Vireo (previously called Solitary Vireo) usually arrives on Cape Cod the second week in April. It is not only endowed with gorgeous markings, but is also a melodious songster. They eat large amounts of insects including caterpillars, moths, beetles, bees, and grasshoppers. They will also forage on wild grapes and viburnum berries in the fall. They summer in New England and Canada and winter in the southern U.S. and Central America.
