Fox Sparrow
| Fox Sparrows are one of the larger sparrows that
reside here in the U.S. The east coast subspecies, known as the Red Fox Sparrow, is so named because
the coloration is much redder than the west coast browner versions. They breed in northern Canada
and Alaska and winter on the west coast and central U.S. to the east coast. They show up in our nets
usually towards the end of November. In winter, they favor wet, woody areas and can be quite skittish.
