Great Crested Flycatcher

The Great Crested Flycatcher is one of our largest flycatchers in the U.S. As its name implies, it catches insects on the wing, but will also go after bugs in the bark or on the leaves of trees and on the ground. In the fall fruits and berries are favored. It is often heard in backyard gardens giving its robust call, "Weeeep!" The tail is cinnamon-rust in color and the tail is bright yellow. During mid-September, these flycatchers leave their breeding grounds and make the yearly fall trek back to southern Florida, Mexico, and the northern portion of South America.
