Indigo Bunting

Indigo Buntings belong to the family Cardinalidae. The plumage of adult males is a vivid blue contrasting markedly to the drab brown plumage of the female. These birds often show up at feeders in mid May as they make their way back to their breeding grounds during spring migration. Males sing a lively song declaring their territory typically in old pastures. Indigo Buntings can live up to 9 years according to banding records.
