Myrtle Warbler
| This
male Myrtle Warbler has molted into its springtime breeding plumage to
try to attract a mate. The Myrtle Warbler is the eastern species of
Yellow-rumped Warblers. People sometimes refer to them as "butterbutts"
because of the yellow feathers covering the rump. Many Myrtles migrate
south for the winter, but others spend their winters on the cape, often
visiting backyard feeders if suet is available. Large numbers of Yellow-rumps fly through this area during fall migration. We captured 443
on one October day while banding! |
