Sora
|
The Sora belongs to the Rail family and is one of
our more secretive birds. Preferring to breed in brackish or freshwater marshes, it can make an
appearance in salt marshes during migration. We caught this bird in late October in the
salt marsh
that separates Wing Island from the mainland. Soras are similar to Yellow Rails in appearance, but
are larger. This bird was identified as a hatching year, meaning it was born in the year it was
caught. Adult Soras have a black face and throat.
