White-throated Sparrow

A male White-throated Sparrow sings a sweet but melancholy song from his perch, Old Sam Peabody, Peabody, Peabody. These birds are polymorphic meaning they have two distinct color forms. Some birds have black heads with white stripes and other birds have brown heads with tan stripes. They prefer wetlands near forests and build their nests close to the ground. Most white-throats migrate, but some males may stay on their breeding grounds permanently. They breed in New England and further north to Canada.
